Shutting One Door, Keeping others Open

UPDATED ON 8/20/21: Facebook, Patreon and Blog IG pages have been shutdown/discontinued As the COVID pandemic rages on and cons are even shutting down into 2021, it got me thinking on a drive home one night about how I'd feel with even coming back to blogging. When cons eventually do come back at some point. Truth be told, many of the posts and content I shared here could be transferred over to more discussions via my podcast CosplayBytes. I've been blogging my love for games, cons and cosplay for 7 years now and maybe it's time to say goodbye for now? My podcast has gotten me some incredible opportunities as a member of Press for conventions, and the rapid love I've had for streaming is also taking up a lot of time now. On top of multiple personal things on my end, I don't think I have the energy to keep this up even post COVID you know? The very first cosplay centered post I wrote was on Jessica Nigri's Deadpool, and since then it's spawned over 800 posts

Cosplay Feature: Kristen Hughey's Poison Ivy!

One cosplayer that I had the pleasure of meeting at RICC was the very sweet Kristen Hughey. I had only started really following her work maybe a few months ago but automatically I could see she loved what she does and really enjoys the costume making process! I was very happy to hear that I was able to meet her sooner than the original plan of meeting each other at PAX East!

One of her cosplays that definitely caught my eye was her Poison Ivy cosplay. The outfit itself is somewhat like a basic one piece adorned with green leaves as is traditional with the character's design most of the time. Also added is the hot rod red wig with the addition of a plant like decoration attached to the side of the wig. Make up wise she adds green eye shadow and greenish lipstick colorings. Also included are heels and wrist cuffs made out of leaves!

Now most Poison Ivy cosplays will vary in terms of skin color. Some will just leave their skin as is while others will go about painting their body a certain shade of green. It usually is a lighter shade so it doesn't blend in with the leaves in the jumpsuit. What Kristen does is what looks like leaving her skin color it's natural shade and leave the editing/photoshop skills of the photographer to add in the greenish tint :).

The poses Kristen does alongside with the setting definitely capture the essence of Poison Ivy as a character. The major ones being sexy and deadly. I hope you enjoy the photos that show off more of the cosplay. Also included an extra one for you guys, you can thank me later ;)

Sometime down the road you can expect to see a full interview with Kristen so be on the lookout for that :D.
