Shutting One Door, Keeping others Open

UPDATED ON 8/20/21: Facebook, Patreon and Blog IG pages have been shutdown/discontinued As the COVID pandemic rages on and cons are even shutting down into 2021, it got me thinking on a drive home one night about how I'd feel with even coming back to blogging. When cons eventually do come back at some point. Truth be told, many of the posts and content I shared here could be transferred over to more discussions via my podcast CosplayBytes. I've been blogging my love for games, cons and cosplay for 7 years now and maybe it's time to say goodbye for now? My podcast has gotten me some incredible opportunities as a member of Press for conventions, and the rapid love I've had for streaming is also taking up a lot of time now. On top of multiple personal things on my end, I don't think I have the energy to keep this up even post COVID you know? The very first cosplay centered post I wrote was on Jessica Nigri's Deadpool, and since then it's spawned over 800 posts

Cosplay Showcase: Yaya Han's Arcade Miss Fortune and Heartseeker Ashe!

Cosplayer Yaya Han is no stranger to creating outfits based upon how extravagant the costume itself looks. She's stated that it's one of the things she looks for when making her own cosplays. It was only a matter of time before she got the League of Legends bug. Yaya crafted not one, but three skins of well known champions from the game. A while back I did a showcase post with many other League of Legends cosplayers including Yaya's Nightraven Fiora outfit. For today, I wanted to gush about her other two, those being Arcade Miss Fortune and Heartseeker Ashe! Both outfits are distinctly different from one another. Miss Fortune's skin is part of the general "Arcade" theme of outfits that various other champions have as skins. The style is retro based with sort of an homage to the classic arcade games. Ashe's skin however is much more elegant yet deadly. As the name of the skin suggests, the heart is the main inspiration for the design. Along with the colors, I believe the skin was released into the game at around Valentine's Day at some point!

Let's start with Arcade Miss Fortune! Again the colors are very bright and fun with a sense of bubble-gum pop style. I love the fabric choices that Yaya went with in constructing the cosplay. Taking snippets of info from her site with a more detailed write-up, the hat was done with EVA foam and some Worbla to have it stabilized. The pixel styled heart on the front is absolutely adorable! The wigs used are long and a bright pink shade with purple highlights that Yaya inserted with a Sharpie and alcohol! Many of the main clothing pieces were patterned by Yaya using of course reference pictures of the character.

The corset piece/cincher that's underneath the white top is done with hot pink glitter pleather. The pleated skirt matches along with the overall tone of the cosplay. Colors of this include pink and a light shade of purple! Yaya's arms are covered with a long arm warmer and she made the wristbands that are placed on it.  The headphones were casted in resin and attached to a headband. Miss Fortune's signature guns for this skin were commissioned by the amazing Junkers Cosplay (who I've featured before) and painted with assistance from her friends and fellow cosplayers Fantasy Ninja and Benni! The amount of detail they show is simply outstanding.

In staying true to the character, Yaya modified the cincher to cover more of her midriff but show the right amount of cleavage in respect to how Miss Fortune actually looks. The photos that this cosplay got are amazing! Especially the edited ones that Kamui Cosplay which show off lots of colors and bubbly styled effects! The boots she chose for this cosplay are also perfect and Yaya did a great job on painting them. This is one cosplay I would absolutely love to see in person and since I play Miss Fortune mainly in League (in that skin no less), seeing the progress pictures was amazing!

Shifting gears over to Heartseeker Ashe, Yaya amassed a variety of fabrics and combined them in order to construct this. She mainly used the splash art images of the skin rather than the in-game design. This is of course due to colors in the game looking vastly different than the concept art. Personally speaking, I love the splash art as well, the colors are so majestic! The style is very Victorian-esque and Yaya simply nails this look! The purple pattern jacket that over-lays the silk red bodice is fantastic. Her legs and arms were done with a shiny fabric. This is also the perfect shade of purple!

The wig she chose was lightly dyed blue and styled as well. Gold trimmings are laced around the jacket, heart shaped center and shoulders. There's one particular photo that I have for you guys where the trimming is greatly shown and stands out! The gloves are the same color as the trimming. The legs being attached like garters add in a sexy side to Ashe as well. The bow was done in collaboration with Kamui Cosplay who saw it as a great opportunity to construct a prop for her Armor and Prop making books!

The photos from this cosplay are simply gorgeous! The setting is perfect for Ashe and Yaya certainly knows how to capture the character in the poses. Both of these cosplays are a great representation at the skill level that Yaya possesses when it comes to cosplay. She's definitely one of my top inspirations and overall very sweet and humbling. I regret not being able to find time to see her at NYCC this year so I hope it won't be long till I see her again! I'll include links to the write-ups Yaya did so you can see how much effort she put into these cosplays! Enjoy the rest of the pictures! :D
