Shutting One Door, Keeping others Open

UPDATED ON 8/20/21: Facebook, Patreon and Blog IG pages have been shutdown/discontinued As the COVID pandemic rages on and cons are even shutting down into 2021, it got me thinking on a drive home one night about how I'd feel with even coming back to blogging. When cons eventually do come back at some point. Truth be told, many of the posts and content I shared here could be transferred over to more discussions via my podcast CosplayBytes. I've been blogging my love for games, cons and cosplay for 7 years now and maybe it's time to say goodbye for now? My podcast has gotten me some incredible opportunities as a member of Press for conventions, and the rapid love I've had for streaming is also taking up a lot of time now. On top of multiple personal things on my end, I don't think I have the energy to keep this up even post COVID you know? The very first cosplay centered post I wrote was on Jessica Nigri's Deadpool, and since then it's spawned over 800 posts

Cosplay Showcase: Maki Roll's Gamora!

Maki Roll is definitely a cosplayer I've seen throughout my online feeds and I've been meaning to share off one of her cosplays she's made throughout her time in this hobby. Her Gamora really spoke to me along with the recent movements/strides in the cosplay world online, I wanted to give POC a definite spotlight. Mainly to share the statement that truly ANYONE can COSPLAY. Getting to the outfit, Maki's Gamora is more in line with her classic/traditional look. The leotard-like piece is full blown open in the front and meets in the area between her legs. Now that I look at it more as I write this, it's very similar to Vampirella's iconic look/costume. There's also a shiny gold trim along the edges of this piece. Around Maki's waist is a brown belt with an icon as its buckle. Truth be told I don't know what this image symbolizes but it must have some significance to the character. Also done in a gold color!

The same type of fabric is used in both Maki's arm AND leg coverings. Even with the trim being the same! Oh and if you haven't noticed, she's covered in green body paint. THAT'S dedication :D. Her face shows markings alongside both of her eyes, and the wig is absolutely gorgeous in some of the shots I have for you guys. There's also several gold chain necklaces across her....neck. Another huge part of this cosplay is the giant cape that looks to be attached through Maki's shoulders. It also includes a hood which you'll see in the image at the start of this piece.

Fully done in black, it also has a rich gold coloring for its inside. The green lipstick used is super freaking CUTE! All the shots show Maki in a powerful light, you definitely wouldn't want to mess with this daughter of the Mad Titan. Like, even her fingers are covered in green! I can only imagine how much time and how tedious it can be with getting into cosplays like this. The fabric definitely has that smooth felt look/style. OH, I totally forgot to mention Maki's badass sword she's got as a prop. The blade has an interesting curvature, and the pommel looks to have been wrapped in various brown straps. This and the face-paint were done by Maki's husband! Powerful yet gorgeous, that's how I'd sum up this cosplay. Enjoy the other photos guys!

On top of being an amazing cosplayer, Maki Roll is also a burlesque performer. I've heard that some of her shows are quite the ride! Check out her FB for more info about the other cosplays she's made :D
