Shutting One Door, Keeping others Open

UPDATED ON 8/20/21: Facebook, Patreon and Blog IG pages have been shutdown/discontinued As the COVID pandemic rages on and cons are even shutting down into 2021, it got me thinking on a drive home one night about how I'd feel with even coming back to blogging. When cons eventually do come back at some point. Truth be told, many of the posts and content I shared here could be transferred over to more discussions via my podcast CosplayBytes. I've been blogging my love for games, cons and cosplay for 7 years now and maybe it's time to say goodbye for now? My podcast has gotten me some incredible opportunities as a member of Press for conventions, and the rapid love I've had for streaming is also taking up a lot of time now. On top of multiple personal things on my end, I don't think I have the energy to keep this up even post COVID you know? The very first cosplay centered post I wrote was on Jessica Nigri's Deadpool, and since then it's spawned over 800 posts

Cosplay Showcase: Alyson Tabbitha's Widowmaker!

There's a decent chance you have seen Alyson Tabbitha's work though not knowing her name/handle. From what I've seen of her work, she's an INCREDIBLE make-up artist. Being able to drastically change her look into characters like Jack Sparrow or Wonder Woman, you'd think you were looking at Johnny Depp or Gal Gadot themselves. Those are the two I recently remember seeing and you might have as well, since they were the side by side shots showing her regular self, then the complete transformation. One cosplay that shows that drastic side is her Widowmaker from Overwatch. As the femme fatale, Alyson just nails every single aspect of her. A little bit of everything in terms of creation skill is used here. The sewing on the bodysuit, armor pieces on her shoulders and the gauntlet, body paint in her upper area, and as mentioned at the start, incredible makeup work. Here, Alyson took on the sniper's default outfit. Mainly consisting of the infamous bodysuit with the armor additions in the usual spots.

Specifically, you have the giant head piece that double acts as a visor (though it doesn't for real in this case) for precise aiming in the game. The shoulder pieces are small and dark grey in color. On them is also a light blue W most likely representing her insignia/symbol. The gauntlet look pretty massive in size as it travels from her wrist to just about the elbow. What looks like a syringe or something similar is inserted into the gauntlet. Based on how the armor pieces look, I bet EVA foam was the main material used. The bodysuit is a mix of different fabric types. To save lots of work/time, the sleeves are the same color as her body paint. Less work in that department is always a good thing! The main chest piece has an opening with the covered spots done in an almost vinyl/leather like fabric.

The black markings on the pink look to be done in the same type. The upper arm/shoulders and side of her legs look to have a much softer feel to them. The legs are etched in a pattern in black and one has a pouch strapped to it. The other arm without a gauntlet instead has a small cuff on the wrist and a black glove. Alyson's wig choice couldn't have been more perfect. A deep blue shade done up in a single ponytail that travels a decent length downwards. The bodypaint comes in along her full face and torso/chest. The eye makeup is insane and truly looks like Widowmaker stepped out of the game into real life.

Everything about Alyson's Widowmaker is incredibly spot on and I can tell she put so much work into it. The massive Sniper Rifle she has in hand was either commissioned or she had some assistance in putting it together. If it's none of the above and she formed it herself then GOD DAMN WOMAN! The frame of the gun looks bulky and almost cartoonish in some ways, with the color scheme being all dark themed like the rest of her armor. The photos are something else too, the editing done by David Love is just amazing, you guys have to see it for yourself!
