Shutting One Door, Keeping others Open

UPDATED ON 8/20/21: Facebook, Patreon and Blog IG pages have been shutdown/discontinued As the COVID pandemic rages on and cons are even shutting down into 2021, it got me thinking on a drive home one night about how I'd feel with even coming back to blogging. When cons eventually do come back at some point. Truth be told, many of the posts and content I shared here could be transferred over to more discussions via my podcast CosplayBytes. I've been blogging my love for games, cons and cosplay for 7 years now and maybe it's time to say goodbye for now? My podcast has gotten me some incredible opportunities as a member of Press for conventions, and the rapid love I've had for streaming is also taking up a lot of time now. On top of multiple personal things on my end, I don't think I have the energy to keep this up even post COVID you know? The very first cosplay centered post I wrote was on Jessica Nigri's Deadpool, and since then it's spawned over 800 posts

STRUCK FIRST: Vanity Fox as Red XIII!

Having cosplayed as her own design/take on Kimahri from Final Fantasy X, this didn't stop Vanity Fox from cosplaying even more cat like characters. Next on her list was a version of Nanaki or, as most people know him, Red XIII from Final Fantasy VII. Similar in design to Kimahri, Casey is rocking a short top with a skirt and other assorted items such as bracers and a crazy wig. Done for this past ColossalCon, she was aiming for another comfy gijinka as the con atmosphere is so laid back. Definitely on my convention bucket list for sure! All the fur you see in this cosplay was orange in its original form. Using an airbrush, Casey experimented with lots of red (and black) to match Red XIII's fiery color scheme. For example, the tail piece was her favorite element, with it being yellow originally and the base having a wire frame.

Casey was sweet enough to give me notes about this whole cosplay and its construction. To continue, the ears were curved out in Worbla and layered up with fur. The overall red/black color scheme works really well! Hanging off the furry ears are earrings done in wood with slits added in. The paint job was done by her of course! The skirt is approximately 5-6 yards worth of feather trim. Each part of this was placed carefully then sewn together. These pieces were also used in the headdress which is attached to a Lakefront styled wig from Arda. In addition, some beads can be seen sewn into the wig with the feathers.

The fur bra was done by Casey but the harness seen on top was found through an Etsy shop known as Dream Warriors Clothing. What's crazy is that this design was seen being sold as knockoff from a more recognizable chain so supporting the original was a big bonus for her. The tattoos on her legs were drawn up in Illustrator. Having wonderful ladies like Byndo Gehk, Intraventus and Ladee Danger assist in placing/removing them was a huge help for Casey.

Much like the wrist coverings, Casey has fur pieces right around each ankle. The close up shot of her face shows off the scar as well as the added in fangs too! The photos really show off the bright red/orange color and she nailed matching up Red XIII's gradient. Not to mention some of these were taken by cosplayer friends of hers and look so stunning! Enjoy the shots guys!

I've got nothing but praise and admiration for Casey. She puts so much heart and effort into her cosplays so of course I enjoy gushing about them! Be sure to check out her FB page for more shots, plus her Patreon is really something personal/special. Having been a Patron for awhile, her rewards are the cutest!
