Cosplay Feature: Kate Sarkissian's Feraligatr!

Photo by Kris Andi Anime Expo has come and gone and it's always a blast seeing what cosplayers bring whether it's a tried and true outfit or something brand new. I feel like for many of the conventions Kate's attended, she has a drive to create something brand new. It's definitely fun watching her share mini crafting videos on her Instagram stories. Nice little glimpse into the WIP setup! When it was shared that she was going to be doing a gijinka of Feraligatr from Pokemon's second generation, I really got amped up and excited. If you're not aware, Totodile is my all time favorite Pokemon starter and his evolution line is pretty fantastic. My own history with Feraligatr on my team goes all the way back to the days of Pokemon Colosseum! Kate's version of the water type is definitely skimpy in some ways but when you're in the blazing summer heat in CA, you got to make sure you're comfortable right? The main top piece consists of two parts covering up ...

STRUCK FIRST: Marie Grey as Auron!

Struck First gives you a first look at a cosplay just as it's been debuted/had its first photoshoot. Cosplayers have been kind enough to let me have a first crack at analyzing the cosplay by providing me with brand new pictures.

I definitely recall featuring Marie Grey's original Auron way back when this blog was just starting out. When she announced she was doing an updated look based off an artist representation. Specifically, the cosplay made it's original debut at Katsucon 4 years ago. This version rocked KupoCon this year! Marie's Auron consists of a black one piece as the base with the belt and robe taking center stage. The areas with armor pieces are done with Worbla and craft foam! The weathering effects up by the raised collar is so well done here as well! Marie provided me with some quick notes on how this version was constructed so some of the stuff I mention is directly from her mouth XD. For instance, the robe is of a heavy suiting material with its insides being fully lined up.

The blue and white trims you see throughout the cosplay is basically 2 different types layered up. This was a last minute decision as Marie wasn't able to find something else that suited her needs! The signature starting blade Auron starts out with was commissioned by Assert Revenge and I really love how it looks! The blade has a layered feel between the grey and black areas. It also looks to be fairly light so Marie is able to easily wield it for the photos I have to share! Other notes provided include the wig which was actually formerly used for her Zatanna and Wonder Woman! This was done because the original wig along with her glasses were misplaced during KupoCon!

The shoot took place at the Francis William Bird Park in MA! Though unfortunately no birds were present :O. Plus the bead string on the cosplay broke off which caused them to scatter like crazy! Regardless, the photos came out so dang perfect and I fangirled so hard when Marie sent me these pics :D. Hopefully you all will appreciate them as well!
