Shutting One Door, Keeping others Open

UPDATED ON 8/20/21: Facebook, Patreon and Blog IG pages have been shutdown/discontinued As the COVID pandemic rages on and cons are even shutting down into 2021, it got me thinking on a drive home one night about how I'd feel with even coming back to blogging. When cons eventually do come back at some point. Truth be told, many of the posts and content I shared here could be transferred over to more discussions via my podcast CosplayBytes. I've been blogging my love for games, cons and cosplay for 7 years now and maybe it's time to say goodbye for now? My podcast has gotten me some incredible opportunities as a member of Press for conventions, and the rapid love I've had for streaming is also taking up a lot of time now. On top of multiple personal things on my end, I don't think I have the energy to keep this up even post COVID you know? The very first cosplay centered post I wrote was on Jessica Nigri's Deadpool, and since then it's spawned over 800 posts

Cosplay Feature: Jackie Craft's Varian Wrynn!

Apologies if it's taken me this long to share Jackie Craft's work on here for you guys! Her work is just absolutely mind-blowing! Not to mention that she also was on an episode of Cosplay Melee a few years back :O. Today, I want to dive back into the craziness that is World of Warcraft and the insane armor builds that come with it. Jackie here is cosplaying as the Alliance leader and human King, Varian Wrynn. I've featured a Varian cosplay before and this one has a lot more color in the armor work itself. Several parts of the armor have fur lining near the edges of insertion. Blue and red are the main colors with the obvious gold/bronze coloring for trim lines. Thankfully, Jackie looks to be sporting comfortable clothing underneath as the armor base.

Some of the photos like the one on the left do a fabulous job at REALLY showing just how blue the cosplay is. The shoulder pieces have that signature eagle head shape carved in, with lions making up the buckle and knee cap pieces. Red is used for the eye slits and various "gem" slots in the armor. The pauldrons at the bottom have this layered look of smaller blue squares lined up. The arm guards and chest piece have a scaled texture/design to it.

The backside of Jackie's cosplay is nothing but a dark and tattered cape with the pauldrons taking center stage. Quick note that the shoulders have a different animal face for each one. The leg armor looks to be wrapped around brown boots as its base. Jackie also has Varian's giant sword as the prop. The unique design is on point with only half of the hilt guard plus parts of the blade ending abruptly. Gold and silver make up this piece's color scheme, in addition to red gems placed in the center and pommel of the sword.

There's certainly a lot to take in with this cosplay and the photos do a fantastic job in showing that off! Check it out :D. Foam and Worbla look to be the main materials used as always when it comes to armor work in cosplay!
