Cosplay Feature: JustPhilBuilds' What If? Ultron

When it came to doing some browsing over who I wanted to share next, this insanely sleek & polished looking Ultron came into view. Then when I started to find more photos taken of the finished shot I knew that I needed to write about it since it's a character that you don't normally see cosplayed on a mass scale. As I type this out, I was looking through JustPhilBuilds' profile (the mastermind behind this build) to figure out what sort of materials were used in this construction. His bio mentions that he's huge into 3D printing and I thought to myself "No freaking way that most of this was 3D printed". Turns out that's exactly the case as Phil mentions that the cosplay as a whole is a combination of various files created by others in the 3D printing community. With all of this introduction/set up out of the way, what exactly makes up this Ultron?

For those not in the know, this version of Ultron debuted as one of the primary villains in a season of the animated What If property. Starting off with the iconic helmet that's adorned with the Mind stone and the multiple eye slits. You'll notice later on the chest piece that the other Infinity Stones are inserted in which is what happened with the character in the show as he came into contact with the stones. What I found interesting is that the helmet opens up around Phil's mouth but the section of his face is colored in a pink shade. I have no clue if that coloring was actually done at the convention or if it was a post-edit addition.

Throughout the full cosplay you can see some hints of grey fabric which leads me to believe that the armor pieces were placed on top of some clothing as a base for a smooth suit up process. I absolutely love the golden accent marks that you can see alongside the neck/upper chest in addition to the arms. The shoulders are decked out with giant circular pauldrons with a long flowing red cape out in the back. You can also see some gold trim decorating the bottom of the cape too!

It's really insane at the type of things you can create if you have the proper 3D printer set up. Just even the close up shot directly above, the way the neck has those pipe details absolutely blows my mind you know? You have a slight gold trim decorating around Phil's waist in addition to the leg portions being separated/segmented out. I imagine this was done to help make the cosplay somewhat maneuverable at the convention this was debuted at. The way everything looks with each pieces curvature and how shiny the cosplay looks just has me speechless. I'm curious as to how long this takes to put on as well! There's really not much else I can think of. I also wonder though if this was created with one 3D printer or a multitude of them. In any case, feel free to scroll up throughout this post to look at the photos I found for Phil's Ultron!
