Cosplay Feature: Yaya Han's Sorceress Edea!

Photo by Carlos Adama It goes without saying that Yaya Han never ceases to amaze me with her deep appreciation to cosplay in addition to the amount of work that she's done in making cosplay accessible to the mainstream audience with her patterns & fabric line. She manages to cover a wide range of pop culture from anime, gaming and comic books. Whenever Yaya gets into cosplaying from franchises that I myself have a deep love for, that's when I really nerd out in excitement over what she's able to do. Case in point, her Sorceress Edea from Final Fantasy VIII is absolutely amazing. It's so simple yet stunning beyond words so I apologize if this overall write up is a bit on the shorter side. Starting off is possibly the most iconic piece to Edea's design and that's her helmet. The overall construction was 3D printed by the amazing Dangerous Ladies  and then Yaya went to town with the paint work. The helmet itself is this really interesting design with a variety

Cosplay Feature: Dannylion's Pinocchio!

Today, in honor of kicking off the spooky season, I've felt that my friend Dannylion's Pinocchio from Lies of P really fit the mood. I was looking through her Instagram to really see what sort of work she's been up to throughout this past year. Always feel like Dani is at some convention over in the Northeast area so when I saw these images, I was instantly drawn to just how incredible she looks. My knowledge of the Souls-like game is pretty sparse outside of trying the demo for myself and watching some gameplay but, Dani here is wearing what I believe to be the puppet's default/an early outfit design upon starting the game. From the top, you have a black wig which has a design that reminds me of the type of hairstyles you'd see from like classical composers. From there on out, multiple layers of clothing make up the outfit in addition to the mechanical portions which give Pinocchio his flair. There looks to be a buttoned up white shirt underneath it all with a fancy black bowtie up by the collar.

The real magic to the cosplay comes in the form of the trench coat like jacket that's worn over the initial piece. I'm reminded of the coat I had as part of my Steampunk Nightwing cosplay I made years ago. The way the leather collar is layered/folded over the green velvet like section just looks so freaking cool! Both sides of the prominent leather flap have a little pattern etched into them. The coat travels pretty far down towards Dani's legs which themselves are covered by what I'm assuming are long pants. It's a bit tricky to make out some parts of the cosplay due to the dark vibes the lighting gives off. The editing done by Dani to each of these gorgeous shots is done purposefully to emulate the vibes of Krat, the main city the game takes place in.

As noted in her IG posts about the cosplay, GildedStitch did an amazing job with each photo taken. Plus, Dani made the pattern for the giant Puppet Ripper weapon and the mechanical arm pattern came from Krotek over on Etsy! Starting with the Puppet Ripper, the overall look of the weapon gives off scythe vibes. You have a long plain handle before you have the pommel (I think?) giving off industrial vibes with its shape and coloring. There's a small brown handle sticking off of this piece as well. Traveling further up you have a plated piece that curves up in one direction. Several holes are imprinted into this section before you reach a small gear that's embedded at the end. From there, you have a small line/pipe/piece that connects it to the much larger blade that curves down in the opposite direction. Really gives off massive hook vibes! Along the top of the hook you can serrated blades sticking out.

I need to stress how insane of a job Dani did with weathering both the clothing part to the cosplay alongside the weapon and mechanical arm attachment. Speaking of, to really show the puppet aspect of the character, the arm is split into multiple portions and I'm assuming it's all layered on top of a long glove or attached via straps. The pronounced line work on the gloves in addition to its shading/coloring, it's a lot to make my cosplay appreciation brain just marvel over her work. The main portion of this arm is beautifully detailed as if it came out of an industrial boiler room. Dani's other arm is more traditional with a long black sleeve and a bright red/brown glove. You can see that same leather part I mentioned earlier act as a cuff/end on this arm. There's a small belt tied around the waist area and the cloak itself has a more dirt & tattered look down towards the bottom. Lastly, Dani has tall brown boots for footwear.

I'm hoping that while this was being worn that the convention was either mostly outside and cool enough cause I know I'd be dying of heat/sweat in multiple layered pieces like this! Dannylion really is an insanely talented cosplayer and all her builds whether I know the character or not, are just something to stare at in awe. I highly recommend you follow her work alongside her streams on Twitch if you don't already. Check out the link below to find all her spots of the internet!
