Cosplay Feature: Holly Bean Cosplay's Sypha from Castlevania!

By the time you're reading this, I will have just gotten back from my first convention of the year, PAX East! You can hear all about it in a brand new episode of CosplayBytes! For now, let's go back a little bit further to MAGFest from January for even more gaming related cosplays. Holly Bean Cosplay here brought along her cosplay of the devoted mage Sypha from the Castlevania anime adaptation aired on Netflix. By the time of this posting, the original has aired two seasons plus a spin off called Nocturne starring another Belmont Descendant. You'll notice that even if the cosplay is relatively simple in its design, I love both the pose work that Holly has done in addition to the edited photos that came out of this. Starting from the top, Holly is rocking a short orange wig with a variety of curls and wefts seen on her sides and from the back. Then you have the main top piece all in a light shade of blue and layered.

What I mean by layered is that the collar first off has multiple folds added in and looks to be holding its shape. There's a blue base top seen slightly underneath the first layer. Said first layer is more shaped like a tabard/poncho of sorts with it traveling all the way down. Towards the bottom is where you see it come to a sharp triangle like point. White makes up the very bottom and hangs even further down. This is all mirrored in the backside. The second layer hidden underneath also includes white wrappings around Holly's torso.

The shots I have for you don't show off the pants wear too much but I am willing to guess it's all full black with the ends being around the ankles? (A quick google search confirms partly. The pants area is more like a dress/gown type piece but it does end at the ankles!) I mentioned at the top that poses is something that Holly excels at. With being a mage, hand work is something that Sypha is known to utilize in episodes of the show. Plus, Holly has a fiercely determined look on her face which adds even more to the finished shots.

The remaining shots taken by CandidJohnKim have the added effect of red and blue lights on Holly's direct sides. Add in the first shot taken by David, similar lighting effects and coloring can be seen. It leads me to believe that either this lighting was part of the camera setup OR perhaps something done at/by the venue. In any case, I really do love how these pics came out in addition to the simplicity of the cosplay. I have to imagine Holly was very much comfortable wearing this during the convention.
