Shutting One Door, Keeping others Open

UPDATED ON 8/20/21: Facebook, Patreon and Blog IG pages have been shutdown/discontinued As the COVID pandemic rages on and cons are even shutting down into 2021, it got me thinking on a drive home one night about how I'd feel with even coming back to blogging. When cons eventually do come back at some point. Truth be told, many of the posts and content I shared here could be transferred over to more discussions via my podcast CosplayBytes. I've been blogging my love for games, cons and cosplay for 7 years now and maybe it's time to say goodbye for now? My podcast has gotten me some incredible opportunities as a member of Press for conventions, and the rapid love I've had for streaming is also taking up a lot of time now. On top of multiple personal things on my end, I don't think I have the energy to keep this up even post COVID you know? The very first cosplay centered post I wrote was on Jessica Nigri's Deadpool, and since then it's spawned over 800 posts

Convention Report: New York Comic Con 2018

Another year, another successful time at New York Comic Con for me! Same as last year, I spent Thursday driving up to my usual stay. It certainly was a crazy time getting used to the train system and how confusing it can get sometimes. Friday kicked things off with me completing most of my shopping. Again like last year, Square Enix took all of my money. I felt happy knowing that most of the stuff is going to people who I want nothing more than to be happy :D. There were a pretty solid amount of cosplayers like Ivy Doomkitty taking up the cosplay guest of honor. Sonicboombox also had quite the cosplay lineup of peeps signing at their booths. My plans also included getting several of my comics signed which I successfully did on Friday and Saturday :). Authors and artists like Scott Snyder, Trevor McCarthy and Kyle Higgins. I also managed to grab a wonderful new mouse pad/game mat with some killer dragons on it!

Other cosplayers at the con included Stella Chuu, Riddle and others that were wandering around like Jaycee Cosplay (as Batwoman) and Elena Blueskies (who wore Marvel Girl AND a genderbend of Thor from his latest movie!). While I didn't get to find Elena, most of the others I did! There was also the wonderful meeting I had with Feisty Cuffs (dressed as Urakaka), who came all the way from Australia as part of a giveaway! How cool is that? Ms Rae Cosplay, Ani-Mia and Yaya Han were also in attendance and I had great fun in talking with them. Another wonderful gal I spent lots of time with at her booth was Kristen Lanae who made a return to NYCC after her first visit last year! Given the explosion of Bowsette these last few weeks, I was surprised I didn't see many cosplays of that character.

Kristen's just so gorgeous :3
I also spent the last of Friday with Azura Cosplay and Marie Grey who helped me to the train station that night <3. Azura Cosplay was rocking her Magik from X-Men which was beyond gorgeous. Kristen Lanae wore Jessie in replacement of her HellGirl due to her forgetting (unfortunately) the most important part of the character, the beefy arm. Stella was wonderfully portraying her Battle Angel cosplay (I think?) or One Punch Man character Genos. THO I SAW HER AS THARJA AND IT WAS ALL I EVER NEEDED <3. Saturday saw Yaya Han rocking her Yennefer from the Witcher 3, and Kristen as Black Cat.

Ms Rae I forgot to mention was wearing her Supergirl and HOLY TALL AND GORGEOUS! My cosplays this past weekend were Ringabel (or Elvis as told by fellow attendees ;-;) and Casual Prompto. Unfortunately my Polaroid camera bit the dust again so I've made a quick replacement order. I also snagged up a new Kotobukiya statue with Power Girl from the Bishoujo line! You know I also had to grab some cosplayer prints as well! It was also super sweet meeting cosplayer/model Sarah Skittles as well, who looked badass in her Mileena cosplay <3.

My wonderful friend PangolinFeets on Twitter!
Riddle (dressed as Captain America) gave me a heartwarming speech on the last day and it was much needed with all the IRL stuff I'm dealing with. One huge thing I wanted to try this weekend was the Kingdom Hearts 3 demo they had available for people to try out, if they were able to snag a ticket of course! Heading in super early on Sunday, I managed to grab one of the last ones. The demo had me going OH FRICK multiple times and I can safely say that I cannot wait for this major entry to come out in the franchise.

Despite the loneliness I felt being there alone and without people such as my Dad, I managed to have a wonderful time. Everyone was so dang sweet to me and I of course see myself going each year for as long as I am able to. NYCC always sets my mood up high and then low with post con blues. I've got tons of pics to share for you guys, from selfies to shots of items in the con! My Hero Academia was one franchise I saw many cosplays of by the way! Plus the Dragon Ball Z areas had some IMPRESSIVE statues on display!

This cutie was Prompto in the Kingsglaive outfit on Friday!
Jaycee is such a babe <3 *swoons*

Getting to spend more time with Azura was AWESOME

Ms Rae Cosplay made my Ringabel wig!

Always love catching up with Ivy :)

Skittlecide on Instagram looked BADASS AS HELL <3

Feisty Cuffs came all the way from AUSTRALIA :D

I GOT TO PLAY IT

Chatting with Riki was a major highlight for me <3

I hope this Report was enjoyable for you guys and that I managed to sum up my experiences well enough. I'll also be trying to have not 1 but 2 Podcast episodes detailing this con, one with Ani-Mia and another with Feisty Cuffs so please be on the lookout for that later this month <3.
